There is no formal membership for the BOPSIG group. We welcome anyone with a professional interest in Cyber Security. You don't have to live or work in the Bay of Plenty.
To be considered a member and to stay informed about upcoming events please join our Mailing List. We also have a LinkedIn group which provides another avenue for connecting with like minded local professionals.
BOPSIG does not offer formal training.
We have several members who hold cyber-security industry qualifications from bodies such as ISC2, ISACA, IAPP and EC-Council. Many will be happy to share their experiences if you are considering training options or methods.
Many professional cyber-security bodies will recognise participation in BOPSIG towards Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits, for further details contact your professional membership body. Informal advice may also be available from other BOPSIG members.
Sessions are held at midday on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from February to November.
Each session includes an opportunity to network with industry peers, a cyber news update and a presentation from an industry professional.
Presentations will generally be:
- On a topic or concept, rather than a specific product.
- 45-60 minutes long.
- Sales free.
Sessions are open to all, but we ask attendees to RSVP (for free) to ensure the venue and presenter are adequately prepared.
Unless otherwise advised, sessions are held at the KPMG Tauranga Offices located at: Level 2 - 247 Cameron Rd, Tauranga, 3110 (corner of Cameron Road & Elizabeth Street).
Flights: The KPMG offices are in the centre of the CBD approximately 15 minutes from Tauranga Airport.
Parking: There is on-street parking on the streets around the KPMG offices (txt, EFTPOS or cash), a small public car-park at the rear of the KPMG Offices and a large parking building on First Avenue (a 3 minute walk).
Please Note:
- KPMG have kindly allowed the use of their venue for free for these events.
- The event is not a KPMG event, so please do not direct any enquiries or feedback about these events to KPMG.
- Guest WiFi is only available to presenters (not attendees).
If you are interested in being a presenter we would love to hear from you! Please contact Jon Edney ([email protected]).
As soon as practical after confirming a presentation date we ask that presenters please provide:
- A short personal biography (brief overview of your skills & experience)
- A title and brief summary of your presentation topic
- A company logo & website URL (if you wish to include one)
These will be listed on the BOPSIG website and included in member emails.
Attendees range in roles and responsibilities. If your presentation is specifically targeted at a particular group (Executives, CISO’s, Analysts, Administrators, Networking Professionals, etc) then please indicate this in your presentation summary so that the attendees can make an informed decision on whether the session is right for them.
Attendees come from a range of employments, including commercial companies, not-for-profits, local government and education. Once again, if your presentation targets only some of these groups please make it clear in your summary.
In 2018, session's averaged 20-30 attendees. There can be no guarantees of the number of attendees. Sessions are open-door but we will attempt to get registrations (RSVP's) to gauge numbers. If you wish to encourage some of your customers to attend then they are very welcome, it is usually easiest to direct them towards the BOPSIG website to RSVP so we can ensure we have adequate seating and they can recieve a name badge.
The attendee list for an event will not be shared, however presenters are welcome to provide follow-up material and contact details through the organisers which will be shared with the attendees.
There is no vetting process for attendees of these sessions. The content of the sessions should never cover material which is classified or sensitive.
If presenters wish to provide food, drink or corporate sponsorship to the attendees then you are very welcome to do so. Likewise there is no expectation that you will do this. Please discuss this in advance with the organisers ([email protected]) so preparations can be made.
Please remember BOPSIG is a not for profit group. We are very sorry but we are not able to cover any expenses you may incur as part of your support for BOPSIG.
BOPSIG values your privacy. Read our Privacy Notice here.
