Presenter
Roger started his career in Information Security April 2008 with an organisation called SpinVox, after 18 years in Arboriculture. SpinVox was a private equity start-up who pioneered transcription of mobile phone messages to SMS and email. He was part of the team that got SpinVox certified to ISO27001 and took the business through ISO9001 certification with no noncompliance’s – a first with BSI at the time. Roger took over running the InfoSec function in early 2009 and managed all aspects of security across the organisation, its globally dispersed suppliers for transcription services, and maintained ISO certifications for 27001 and 9001. In late December 2009 SpinVox was bought out by Nuance communications and Roger became responsible for fronting security for all of Nuances service portfolios in the UK – Mobile, Healthcare and Enterprise services, all of which were driven by SaaS voice recognition platform. He managed customer facing technical sales support, platform security and complex data processing and usage scenarios for global dispersed customers and Nuance research and development teams. He was promoted to Director of the Mobile division in August 2014 and remained in this role until returning to New Zealand in February 2016. Roger now works for SSS IT Security Specialists as their Principal Security Consultant. He has been engaged in security gap analysis for New Zealand Parliamentary Services, Reserve Bank of New Zealand and Civil Aviation Authority, and provides ongoing expertise and advise across commercial and government sectors with SSS’s Virtual InfoSec Consultant Services (VISC). Roger manages the consultancy team at SSS as well as customer development and the new managed services for security operations.
